We have installed it in a 2,500 sq ft section of the warehouse (open), so sound really travels. The compressor is barely noticeable when it is running. We highly recommend it!

It runs two paint booths and 3 shops just fine. The only issue I’ve had is the oil end of life alarm which has been alarming for over a month now …after numerous calls to tech support ,the alarm is still going off constantly and myself or my tenet has called numerous times to get it resolved. So in all we’ve spent at least 8 hrs of phone time and actual troubleshooting time and still have an alarm. For what I spent,I could have purchased two two stage compressors and been much happier.

Questions & Answers

Is there a speed ‘floor’ that the compressor can be run and still be efficient? I would like to convert to three phase via VFD and would like to have the motor run between 30 and 60 hz, depending on the current pressure level in the tank.

It’s not Eastwood’s intended use of the 80/120 compressor, but 20hz. At 20hz that motor will run at approximately 600RPM, and output 10 CFM. At 30hz the unit would operate at half speed and run efficiently.

How many CFM is output at max PSI?

Because this is a scroll compressor, it outputs the same SCFM of 31.8 at all pressures (including the max of 145psi).

Eastwood recommends an 80 gallon tank, but is there a reason I can’t use the 60 gallon tank I already have? My air requirement is 20.5 cfm at 100 psi.

This would work fine. The only down side is result is the unit cycling on/off more often since you have a lesser capacity.

What size phase converter is needed?

We recommended the unit be used on power company supplied 3 phase 208-240VAC. However, if a phase convertor must be used, we recommend: Pro-Line Rotary Phase Converter model PL-40. If another brand is used it must control output 3-phase voltage to within 5%, if not the compressor motor will go into a phase unbalance and shut down until voltage is regulated between each phase to within the maximum 5%.
